Frequently asked questions.
Common questions about how Onsights works, what it measures, and how pricing and data work.
Privacy & data
Do you store our video or record our customers?
No. Video is sent to our secure cloud, processed into anonymous movement data, and discarded. We retain the telemetry - position tracks and derived analytics - not the footage.
Do you use facial recognition?
No. Onsights never detects, matches, or stores faces. Visitors are matched from camera to camera by their overall appearance during a visit - outfit and general look, not facial features - under an anonymous ID. Nothing we keep can be tied to a name or identity: no faces, no names, no personally identifiable information.
What data do you actually keep?
Onsights owns all derived data it produces: the 3D spatial model of your facility, position telemetry, and all analytics - dwell times, region visits, cross-region journeys, and so on. Any facility labels or region names used during processing are anonymized or aggregated in derived data. Video is processed and does not persist. Your floorplan and any screenshots we hold are deleted when your account closes.
Getting started
Do we need new cameras or hardware?
It depends on what you need. If your existing cameras cover the areas you want analytics for and meet our requirements for resolution, angle, and frame rate, there's nothing else to add - no new hardware, no on-site servers, nothing to install.
But if there are gaps in your coverage where you want analytics, adding cameras can be genuinely valuable. Our goal is to shift that conversation: a camera isn't a security cost, it's a source of movement intelligence. The question isn't whether adding a camera is expensive - it's whether the insight it unlocks pays for itself.
What camera systems and VMS vendors do you support?
We ingest video from most standard CCTV and video management systems. We are vendor agnostic and only care about getting the video in a standard format. You can upload footage directly, connect your existing VMS, or archive through our storage partner Wasabi.
We have initial integrations to support popular vendors like Milestone, Genetec, and Meraki, and are continually adding more. If you have a specific system you'd like us to check, reach out before you sign up - we are eager for your requirements.
How long does onboarding take?
About 30 minutes of your time, and we're live within two days. You enter your facility details, connect your video source, and we handle the rest - model setup, calibration, and validation. No on-site visit required.
Do you work with outdoor facilities?
Outdoor environments introduce variables - changing light conditions, weather, and a wider range of variation in camera placement and occlusion - that may require additional coordination and attention from our team. Reach out and we'll give you a clear assessment of what we can deliver for your specific setup.
Credits & billing
What's a credit?
One credit covers one camera running for one hour of video processed. Ten cameras, eight hours of footage: 80 credits. Credits are the same unit on every plan - plans differ in the monthly platform fee, how long your analytics live, and what you can do with the data.
What happens to the analytics if we cancel?
Access to the Onsights telemetry expires when your subscription ends. Pay As You Go accounts have a rolling 30-day analytics window tied to the video processed - older windows close as the 30 days pass.
Can we process footage from before we signed up?
Yes. You can submit historical video from any point in time. The key thing to keep in mind: analytics are tied to your facility's floorplan. As long as the camera positions and facility layout in the video match what you have configured in the system, everything processes correctly. If the layout has changed since the footage was recorded, you'd want a floorplan that reflects the facility as it was at the time.
Quality
How accurate is it?
Under recommended conditions, region-visit counts produced from Onsights telemetry agree with human-annotated ground truth at 0.99.
We also publish results from a real Black Friday week - over 140 cameras and 80,000+ visitors in a single day - where agreement is 0.94, so you can see how quality holds up under peak load. Full benchmarks are in our quality section.
What affects quality?
Camera placement is the biggest factor. Angle, resolution, frame rate, and coverage all matter - cameras need to meet minimum requirements to work reliably. Beyond that, extreme crowd density, camera obstructions, bumped or shifted cameras, and facility layout changes can all reduce quality. We're transparent about these limits, and we'll give you a clear picture before deployment.
Analytics
What can Onsights actually measure?
Visitor volume, dwell time, region visits, cross-shopping between areas, capture rates, first destinations, journey sequences, ad and media impressions, and more. Every plan includes the standard report suite; Subscription adds comparative reporting within a facility, and Enterprise adds cross-facility comparison, API access, and CSV downloads. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.
How is this different from a basic footfall counter?
A footfall counter tells you how many people walked through the door. Onsights tells you what happened after - which areas they visited, how long they stayed, which displays they passed, where they went next, and how those patterns change over time or correlate with outcomes like sales.
It's the difference between a rough headcount and a full picture of how people move through and interact with your space. For a side-by-side look at how Onsights stacks up against counters, sensors, and other analytics platforms, see the technology comparison.
